Dr. Jeong is also an emeritus professor of environmental sociology at Jeju National University in Korea. He received BA and MA degree in sociology from Korea University in Korea, and Ph.D in environmental sociology from University of Queensland in Australia.
He was a professor of sociology at Jeju National University in Korea from 1981 to February 2012, and served as teaching professor at University of Sheffield, United Kingdom in 2000, the president of Asia-Pacific Sociological Association from 2002 to 2004, , and a delegate of South Korean Government to UNFCCC from 2003 to 2004. He published 13 books including Environmental Sociology.
Over 30 years’of research experience on coastal numerical modeling, beach morphodynamics, flooding risk in coastal areas induced by tsunamis and storm surge, wave propagation modeling, including wind waves, tsunamis, and tide propagation, and integrated coastal zone management.
He has been the main researcher in projects funded by European Union, Spanish CICYT, as well as by several Spanish and international public administrations (State Ports Authority, Directorate General for Coasts, Ministries of Environment, etc.). He has wide experience in working on coastal engineering and management worldwide including Caribbean Region with more than 180 projects in the last 15 years.
Dr. Sutat Weesakul is a Director of Hydro–Informatics Institute (HII), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) Thailand, and the founder of the ASEAN Hydroinformatics Data Centre (AHC).
Dr. Weesakul is an expert in hydraulic and coastal engineering and has over 35 years of research and teaching experience. He has been involved with many international projects in collaboration with private sectors and government agencies to enhance the use of Science, Technology and Innovation for sustainable water resources management in Thailand.
